MSLC Can Provide Efficient, Highly Precise Radiation Treatments to a Wider Range of Cancer Patients, Including Those Undergoing Retreatment

CORNWALL, NEW YORK – March 15, 2024: Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall (MSLC) held a ribbon cutting for its new Radixact® System, which can treat virtually any radiation therapy indication, including breast, lung, prostate and head and neck cancers. This non-invasive treatment can also be used on complex cases such as total marrow irradiation, providing more patients in the Hudson Valley with the opportunity to benefit from the fast, highly precise radiation treatments it delivers.

The ribbon cutting took place on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 5:00 pm at the Littman Cancer Center, adjacent to Cornwall Radiation Oncology Services on MSLC’s Cornwall Campus. Our radiation oncology team uses the most advanced technology to effectively evaluate and treat patients to give them the best opportunity for positive outcomes. With the addition of the Radixact® System, MSLC joins renowned hospitals around the world offering leading-edge radiation treatments.

“MSLC is committed to providing our community with state-of-the-art cancer care right at home with outstanding and compassionate staff,” said Shana Coplowitz, M.D., Radiation Oncology Medical Director. “We use advanced technology to provide customized, precise treatments tailored to each patient’s needs. Our aim is to effectively control the cancer while minimizing the impact of the treatment on patients’ daily lives. We are excited to be treating our first patients with the Radixact® System.”

The Radixact® System is a non-invasive treatment option developed to deliver image-guided intensity-modulated (IG-IMRT) radiation therapy, an extremely precise form of radiation therapy. The system provides continuous delivery of radiation from multiple 360-degree rotations around the patient, which increases the control doctors have in targeting the radiation and helps to minimize the dose to surrounding healthy tissue. Sophisticated imaging technology is seamlessly built into the way the Radixact® System delivers the radiation, giving MSLC’s clinical team the ability to clearly see the shape and location of the patient’s tumor — anywhere in the body — in real time before each treatment session.
