Meet Mike Bennett, host of the 100.7 WHUD Morning Show. Mike, a resident of Beacon is grateful for the care that Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall provided him. We are proud to share Mike’s story in his words:
Fast forward to February of this year. A snowstorm with over a foot of snow had just taken place and I fell in the parking lot trying to get to my car. When I got home, I had trouble getting up the steps; I was weak. I slid down the stairs and cut my leg open and was taken by ambulance to MSLC.
The Emergency Department was exceptionally busy, however the care I received was prompt. Even with all the other patients being cared for, many of which I am sure were far more severe than mine, the staff worked very hard to ensure I was taken care of. After numerous tests, the team discovered I had developed hypothermia as a result of my fall in the snowy parking lot. Aside from this, I still could not stand; the MSLC team knew there was something more going on and decided to admit me.
MSLC was proactive and ran many tests. To my surprise, they found a large blood clot in my left knee, and a subsequent smaller clot in my upper lung. I was immediately placed on an anticoagulant drip and spent the next six days in the hospital. Without their expert care, I don’t know what would have happened to me. From the caring nursing staff who work harder than anyone I know, to the intuitive and skilled physicians, I may not be here today.
