Early Lung Cancer Action Program
The Early Lung Cancer Screening Program at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall aims to detect lung cancer in high risk patients at the earliest and more treatable stages, which can lead to increased survival rates.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death in the U.S. in both men and women. Generally, lung cancer is found after advancing to stages 3 or 4. This program explores the early detection and treatment of lung cancer and other diseases associated with smoking through the use of low-dose computer tomography (CT) screening.
Are You A High Risk Lung Cancer Patient?
Smoking is still a leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, but smokers are not the only people who develop lung cancer. Secondhand smoke, exposure to radon gas, and air pollution can develop lung cancer. Talk with your doctor if you believe that you could be at an increased risk of developing lung cancer.
You could be eligible for our program if you are:
- A current smoker?
- A former smoker who has quit in the past 15 years?
- A smoker of 20 years or more?
- Between the ages of 50 and 80
If you answered YES to any of these questions, you may be eligible for
a screening CT scan of your chest
to detect early cancers of the lung.
