Free Hernia Screening Event Offered by The Medical Group at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall

The Medical Group at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall (MSLC) is hosting a free hernia screening event on Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at its Cornwall location. Attendees may register for a screening appointment with a hernia surgery specialist or request a screening upon arrival.

Attendees will also learn more about the da Vinci Xi surgical robot, a technologically advanced tool which allows surgeons to perform operations with a few small incisions and minimal discomfort. Hernia surgeries are same-day procedures, and most patients go home safely and comfortably following their hernia repair.

Hernias can cause symptoms such as bulging, aching, and heaviness in the belly or groin. If left untreated, a hernia can become strangulated which can result in the need for an emergency surgery. The Medical Group’s surgeons can identify a hernia with a simple screening and can discuss available surgical repair options.

At this event, guests register for a fifteen-minute screening appointment with Dr. Lauren Licata or Dr. Vadim Meytes, two expert hernia surgeons. Guests will learn more about the da Vinci surgical robot and be able to familiarize themselves with the process, ask questions, and allay any lingering worries.

“Undergoing elective hernia repair not only alleviates patients' pain and discomfort, but also prevents future complications from leaving a hernia untreated,” Dr. Meytes explained.

Dr. Licata added, “Hernias can be as unique as the patients who suffer from them: it is helpful to have a wide variety of options to repair them. The surgical robot is a great tool to enhance patients’ minimally invasive options."

This special hernia screening event takes place at The Medical Group at MSLC’s office at 19 Laurel Avenue, LL1, Cornwall, NY 12518. Screening appointments are available in fifteen-minute intervals from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
