Newburgh, NY – As the summer weather begins to take hold, the St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital (SLCH) community outreach and education schedule heats up as well. The June calendar features plenty of opportunities to gain valuable knowledge about a variety of health and wellness topics.
The schedule begins on June 1 when Tracey Horan, Director of the SLCH Orthopedics and Spine Service Line, is set to address the Rotary Club of Goshen about the basics of arthritis, including symptoms, diagnosis and treatment.
On Saturday, June 3, the hospital will attend the annual Newburgh Illuminated Music & Arts Festival. The event, located on Broadway in Newburgh, features local vendors, three music stages and various art displays. A busy week of education events begins on Wednesday, June 7 when Dr. Wasik Ashraf presents a free seminar on arthritis of the hip, knee and shoulder, including both non-invasive and surgical treatments. The Littman Cancer Center Education Series resumes on Thursday, June 8. Dr. Marc Rappaport will provide a free lung cancer education presentation in the cafeteria of the SLCH Cornwall campus, located at 19 Laurel Avenue, beginning at 6 p.m. Seats can be reserved online here or by calling (845) 784-3849.
SLCH’s series of lunch and learn events with the Town of Newburgh senior group continues Friday, June 9 when Dr. Manita Sawhney of the St. Luke’s Cornwall Medical Group, gives a presentation on skin care and protection. It is the third in the five-part series that will also feature dates in July and August.
The hospital makes the short trip across the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge on Sunday, June 11 for the annual Strawberry Festival, hosted by Beacon Sloop Club at Riverfront Park. SLCH will be on hand from noon until 5 p.m. with health and wellness tips, along with information about services.
Dr. John McLaughlin, Medical Director of the SLCH Center for Total Joint Replacement, is next on the docket when he presents on the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis in the hip, knee and shoulder at the Homewood Suites in New Windsor on Thursday, June 15 at 6:30 p.m. Dr. McLaughlin will discuss non-surgical treatments such as dietary supplements, medications, exercise and injections, along with surgical options such as the cutting-edge Muscle-Sparing Total Knee Replacement. The list of topics expands to stroke prevention and treatment on Tuesday, June 27 when Dr. Mehul Patel, Medical Director of the SLCH Cardiovascular Institute give a free seminar at the Mulberry House Senior Center in Middletown. No registration is required for the event which begins at 1 p.m.
One of the most popular local events begins on Wednesday, June 28 with the first of the eight-part Nancy Pullar Summer Concert Series hosted by the Town of New Windsor. SLCH is slated to be on hand for all eight concerts, which take place at the Town Hall complex located at 555 Union Avenue. The month’s activities conclude on Thursday, June 29 with the hospital’s annual Golf & Tennis Tournament. The Powelton Club in Newburgh will once again host the event, which features two sessions of golf, tennis, raffles, lunch, cocktails and dinner.
