SLC Health System Foundation Awards Scholarships
Newburgh, NY- St. Luke’s Cornwall Health System Foundation recently awarded four scholarships to local youth who are entering or currently studying in an accredited university or community college. The annual scholarships were provided in recognition of scholastic excellence and volunteerism.
The 2015 scholarship winners are:
Albert M. Berkelhamer Memorial Scholarship: $1,000
Joaquim Rodrigues from Pine Bush High School will be attending New York Institute of Technology this Fall. Joaquim is an active volunteer within his community and has dedicated many hours as a volunteer firefighter, Meals on Wheels delivery personnel and is a domestic violence phone support operator. This scholarship was made possible through the generosity of family and friends of Albert M. Berkelhamer.
Michael L. Pappis, MD Memorial Scholarship: $1,500
Kaitlyn Otero from Washingtonville High School will be attending SUNY Cortland this Fall as part of the Pre-Med Department. Kaitlyn serves as a Safe School Ambassador, camp counselor and lifeguard. The SLCH Medical Staff and the Pappis Family established a lasting memorial tribute to Dr. Michael Lukas Pappis through the creation of this scholarship fund.
St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship: $1,000
Heidi Cowen from Newburgh Free Academy will be attending the University of Massachusetts this Fall to study Speech-Language Pathology. Heidi volunteers at SLCH, particularly by assisting in the Emergency and Speech/Language Departments. This scholarship was made possible by the generosity of the St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital Auxiliary.
Collaborative Prom Fest Scholarship: $1,000
Bradley Moody is a full-time nursing student at Mount Saint Mary College. Bradley serves as Student Body President, is a Residence Assistant and also a Leadership Scholar. This scholarship was made possible by proceeds generated by St. Luke’s participation in Prom Fest, a collaborative event partnered with Mount Saint Mary College and Newburgh Free Academy.
“We are very proud of the recipients of this year’s scholarships,” said Tonya Addy, Vice President of External Relations and Executive Director of the St. Luke's Cornwall Health System Foundation. “These students have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the community and to their studies. We know they will continue to excel in all they do and are proud to support them.”
