Jessica Molosh, RN, Birthing Center

Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall (MSLC) recognized Kaplan Family Birthing Center nurse Jessica Molosh, RN, as its first DAISY Award recipient at a recent ceremony on the Newburgh campus. The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the clinical skill and compassionate care given by extraordinary nurses. It is designed to recognize nurses whose clinical skills and compassionate care exemplify the type of nurse that patients, families view as outstanding role models.

Jessica has been an RN at MSLC since July 2016 after graduating from the Rutgers School of Nursing and immediately became an intricate part of the Birthing Center team with her care of bereaved families. She has attended a continuing-education program with the nation’s leading bereavement organization, Resolve Through Sharing, and is a certified perinatal bereavement counselor.

She was nominated for the honor by a fellow Birthing Center nurse who cited one particular day when Jessica realized how busy the rest of the staff was and came to the hospital on her day off to care for a grieving family.

“Care of the bereaved families is one of the hardest parts of working in the Birthing Center, and Jessica has displayed an exceptional talent for caring for these families,” said Jeanne Boydston, Birthing Center and NICU Director. “She immediately stood out as a shining star during orientation. Jessica is willing to help with anything, is extremely kind to patients and learned to prioritize and multitask very quickly.”

The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications from an autoimmune disease. During Pat’s eight-week hospitalization, his family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided Pat and his entire family. In Pat’s memory, his family created a foundation with the goal of recognizing extraordinary nurses who make an enormous difference in countless people’s lives every day.

“MSLC is very fortunate to have a team of nurses who demonstrated these strong qualities, one of who is Jessica, said Margaret Deyo Allers, Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer. “She is an incredibly compassionate, selfless, expert RN whose care for her patients and patient families is viewed by her colleagues as an RN all strive to emulate.”

Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Nursing has adopted Dr. Jean Watson’s Theory of Caring as the model of our nursing practice which exemplifies our nursing division’s mission.
