Welcome to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall
For nearly 150 years, Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall (MSLC) has been a cornerstone of high-quality healthcare in Orange County, fostering a healing environment through community collaboration, dedicated staff, and a rich history.
Happy New Year! As we step into 2025, Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall (MSLC) celebrates a significant milestone—our 150th year of providing exceptional care. This remarkable anniversary is a tribute to the strength of our institution and, most importantly, the unwavering support of the community we serve. Without you—our patients & families, physicians, employees, donors, and partners—none of this would be possible. I want to express my deepest thanks to all who have contributed to MSLC’s growth and success.
A Legacy of Care
What began as a modest three-bed hospital in 1875 has grown into a comprehensive healthcare system with two campuses and a wide range of outpatient services. We are proud to provide care locally, and when needed, offer seamless transitions to world-class medicine throughout the Montefiore Health System (MHS). Being part of MHS has allowed MSLC to expand our capabilities and offer cutting-edge healthcare to our community. As we continue to grow, our goal remains the same: to provide patients with the right care, at the right time, and in the right place—close to home.
2024: A Year of Growth
MSLC is dedicated to meeting the evolving healthcare needs of our region. In 2024, we focused on expanding and enhancing our outpatient services to improve access to care. Our Internal Medicine Residency program continues to thrive, with same-day appointments available at our Cornwall and Newburgh locations under the slogan, “Sick Today, Seen Today.” We also launched a Comprehensive Weight Loss Center, offering both medical and bariatric surgical treatment options, to address the growing obesity epidemic, and to aide those struggling with their weight loss. In addition, we introduced endocrinology services to meet the increasing demand for diabetes and other endocrine care. Our Bloodless Medicine & Patient Blood Management (PBM) program expanded, including the establishment of an Anemia Center—the first of its kind in Orange County—designed to optimize health and reduce or eliminate the need for transfusions.
Cutting-Edge Care & Technology
At MSLC, we are committed to offering our community the latest in medical technology. We’ve expanded our urological surgical services, now offering Blue Light Cystoscopy, an innovative tool for detecting bladder cancer. This summer, we introduced Radixact® Radiation Therapy, which allows us to treat prostate and other cancers with fewer sessions and less impact on surrounding healthy tissue. And just recently, we became the first hospital in New York State to offer a cutting-edge AI-Powered platform for Aquablation® Therapy, a groundbreaking treatment for men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). These technological advancements reflect our dedication to bringing world-class medicine to our community
Celebrating Our Past, Shaping Our Future
The year ahead will be filled with celebrations as we honor our 150-year legacy and look forward to the future. We are planning monthly fundraisers and community events to engage our neighbors and supporters, culminating in a grand 150th Year Gala Celebration on September 13, 2025. Stay tuned for more information regarding this milestone event next year!
2025: A Year of Celebration and Expansion
At MSLC, access to care is at the heart of our mission. In the first quarter of 2025, we will launch our Patient & Family Navigation Program, designed to guide patients and families through the healthcare system and ensure they receive the right care locally or are seamlessly connected to specialized services at our MHS partners, including White Plains Hospital, Montefiore Medical Center, the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM), and Burke Rehabilitation. We will also continue to expand screenings, preventive care, and specialty services.
In 2025, MSLC will grow its services in several key areas:
• Primary Care Services: Expanding our Graduate Medical Education Program and adding new Primary Care Physicians.
• Specialty Services: Increasing endocrinology care and introducing Hepatology services.
• Surgical Services: Successful recruitment of an experienced Colorectal/General Surgeon who will join our team in April 2025, allowing us to expand oncological surgical options.
• Maternal and Infant Services: Expanding our Maternal Child Health center at our Newburgh campus, including 24/7 in-house anesthesia.
• Cancer Care: With the new Radixact® Radiation Therapy, we will offer enhanced radiation therapy locally, alongside exciting advancements in oncology care across Montefiore Health System.
A Call to Action—Your Support is Vital
As we reflect on our rich history and look toward the future, I ask for your support in a way that goes beyond traditional philanthropy. While we deeply appreciate your generosity, there is something even more crucial that we need from you: your continued use of MSLC’s healthcare services.
A common refrain I hear when speaking with community members is, “I didn’t know you offered that.” The truth is, we often don’t think about healthcare services until we need them. With that in mind, I’ve included a list of the services we offer across both campuses, but I want to highlight some of our often-overlooked offerings—particularly in our Cornwall campus. Many are surprised to learn that we provide fast and reliable outpatient lab and radiology services—services that are critical, yet not always top of mind when people think of a hospital.
In 2025, I’ll be meeting with community groups to discuss the importance of utilizing hospital-based services—whether for labs, imaging, surgeries, or routine care. By choosing MSLC for your healthcare needs, you play an essential role in ensuring the long-term sustainability of your community hospital and helping us continue to provide exceptional care for future generations.
As we step into 2025, I am filled with gratitude for all we have accomplished together. None of this would be possible without the dedication of our physicians, employees, the generosity of our donors, and the trust of our patients and families. I look forward to another year of growth, innovation, and care for our community.
Most Sincerely,
Daniel J. Maughan, RN, FNP-C
